luna safety & upgradesif you have info on tried and tested upgrades that make riding these beasts safer and/or easier, contact us (mail@lunabase.co.uk), we'd be very happy to to post them here for the benefit of other luna owners. :: wheel fixing upgrade :: thanks to LOC member adam winstone for sending in the first tip for this page: "this is an extract from a write-up that i hope will soon appear in JetSet, which I think should be put on this site asap. this bit of info could help someone avoid a nasty accident!: heading towards selby i learnt why the indians probably decided to change their 'sunny' j range from the 3-point wheel rim fixing of the italian design to a 4-point fixing design. happy with the bike's handling i cranked the bike into a medium sized round about and suddenly realised that i was taking the first exit, even though it was the second one that i wanted! the bike steered itself straight off the road and into a petrol station forecourt (luckily), regardless of the fact that my front wheel was pointing towards the next exit. thankfully, I managed to stop without issue and put the bike on the stand so that i could investigate. i was very shocked to find that i'd lost one of the 3 bolts that locate the wheel rim to the hub, the second was half way out and the third was only finger tight! i had only just built the damned bike, using new bolts (of the correct full length), spring and flat washers and had not thought for one minute that they could work their way loose. i have no doubt that 3 point fixing design of the j's (stud and nut) and lunas (bolts) is much inferior to the 4 point fixing of many other lambrettas, and i'm pretty certain that this would have become evident very quickly on indian roads...hence the change to the indian design. without trying to seem overdramatic, i could very easily have been seriously injured and hope that any luna fan reading this might take note. i was also pretty lucky to find that there was a tyre fitting centre next to the petrol station and i managed to get hold of 3 longer m8 bolts that would reach right through the steel hub lugs and allow for nyloc nuts to be fitted to the other side. this 'lock nut' assembly gives a much better degree of safety and i'd suggest that all luna riders take a minute to upgrade their wheel fixings. i have since learnt that i'm not the only luna rider to have had a narrow escape when this has happened - so ignore this at your peril!" :: rear brake system :: thanks to LOC member daz h for sending in his tip:
