:: chairman's foreword ::

here it is, summer again, and we're now on luna news number 9. work has been hectic and i still haven't got round to copying the vega racing pics that i promised sarah i'd do.

the interesting thing at the moment is seeing vega's and lui's regularly turning up on e-bay. though there seem to some high prices being asked. on the high price front i was more than amazed to see my vega for sale on the j.c. scooters website and a price tag of £650 being asked. it seems that because people are now aware of the interest in the luna line that they think they can ask, in my opinion, often inflated prices for incomplete machines. anyway, that aside its good to see so many cropping up.

this weekend sees the annual revival scooters open day with adam winstone telling me that he might go on his vega and then put it on the dyno. he hasn't committed himself to it, but what an eye opener that would be to the non-luna line lammie owners out there. any other luna-tics coming along?

i have recently been onto scooter patches who have designed a Luna Owners Club patch for us, i'm having 25 printed and they will be available at a cost of £2 each (including postage) let me know if you're interested. anyway, time to get back to my book writing, so until next time, ride safe.

:: this month’s featured luna: jaime's vega ::

jaime (lcgb forum name: supereibar) is a new LOC member from barcelona, spain, and has recently acquired a vega:

"well the reason i got into the whole vega luna thing is because i've always been curious to ride one, and i think the only way to ride one of these little machines and enjoy it is to buy one for myself. also, the idea to have a vega has haunted me for about four years now".

"a friend had a cometa when I lived in the usa in 2002 and i thought it wasn't all that when i first saw it. it wasn't until he sold it to some bloke in cleveland for 600 miserable usd that i started recalling what a great design this scooter had and how great it would have been if i had tried the scooter out (hehehe) because i would have probably offered him a straight trade with my li125 III. my friend sold it and moved onto an li that he still has now, but hell, i wish he would have kept that cometa, that thing was perfect kept".

"i moved to milano italy last year and lived there up until july of 2005, well i was always searching for a vega without luck. finally back home in barcelona, with a steady job to fool around with scooters i decided to start up my new collection of jewels. the wonderful inspiring site lunabase came up, and pictures of racing vegas came up with it... this collection had to have a vega, it just was a must".

"the terrible threesome is formed by a a silver eibar li150 sII with a dl200 engine, a 1969 verde mela sx150 (my favorite color on a lammy and one of my favorite scooters) and an all original recently arrived 1969 metallic gray vega. as far as i know there are no other luna scooters to my knowledge in spain so this might be the only one".

"the story of this vega is quite much of a mystery to me yet. i got it through ebay from some folk who sells all kinds of classic motorbikes right in galipolli, lecce province, a very small peninsula in the very heel of the boot of italy. several parts are missing but the scooter frame seems pretty straight and clean alltogether. my plan is to restore the engine with the magnificent workmanship of jem booth and let her roll over barcelona!

jaime"

:: kickstart return cams ::

although they both look very similar there is a difference between j range and luna kickstart return cams and it is very important to use the right one in your luna motor. the j range cam is part number 20054020 and the rubber buffer is part number 20054005. the luna cam is part number 20354040 and the rubber buffer is part number 20054005 - the same as the j range.

these cam plates are not adjustable as on series three lambretta models and they hold the kickstart shaft and pedal in a certain position when held under pressure from the kickstart return spring. if you use a j range cam in a luna crankcase side the kickstart pedal will sit too low and you wil not be able to attain an adequate "kick" to spin the engine over to start it.

the pictures below show the differences quite clearly for identification purposes - the j range cam has a radius in the front edge of the base plate and the luna one is flat, also, if you look at the rear face of the cam you can see that the j range one is clearly longer where the rubber return buffer sits. this extra length moves the rebound rubber forward and is what will lower the shaft/pedal if the j range cam is fitted to a luna casing.
