:: chairman's foreword ::

well it seems like ages since the vmsc event in coventry and since then i've managed to buy a lui 50c. it's in pretty good nick though the rear light is missing. no worries there though as nigel cox has got one for me.

the past week has been a fantastic week for me on the luna finds front. no, i haven't found any rare models but i have managed to find an original lambretta concessionaires letter from 1968 that talks about the launch of the luna line and the fact that at that time they were looking to import the 50cc lunas alongside the 75cc models. if that wasn't enough i managed to catch up with a mate of mine who used to race back in the 60's. he's lent me a whole box full of stuff which includes some vega info i've not seen before and a stack of early 70's jetsets that have some fantastic black and white pics of racing vegas. in the pile is even a 1969 jetset that has a write up on the launch of the luna line in russia!

a trip to kev stannards in derby last week also saw me looking at 3 lui 50cl's in original condition. mind you, the £850 price tag put me off. i won't say what i paid for my lui 50c from ws9 scooters in walsall but it was certainly less than it was advertised for!!

so, the future's looking good and following my article in the current issue of scooterist scene i hope we gain a few more members - it would be good to get to the magic 100 mark. ride safe and hopefully i'll catch up with some of you soon.

v.m.s.c. (vintage motor scooter club) annual vintage and custom extravaganza
20 lunas landed successfully on sunday 9th april 2006, ryton-on-dunsmore, nr coventry

this month’s featured luna: barneypup's vega

cameron's an LOC member from kilwinning in ayrshire, bonnie scotland. it's a little known fact that a photo of his vega on the internet provided the basis for the lunabase logo and the LOC t-shirt graphic!:

"i have always had a special place in my lambretta soul for the luna line machines, i first set my eyes upon a original untouched vega at the bridlington trade and custom show back in 1994. if i remember correctly rob skipsey was selling it with a shopping basket on the inside of the leg shields. the look of the vega stayed with me for many years to come. with hind sight I was glad I never purchased it, as the mini bus we had hired for our scooter club was involved in an accident on the way back to scotland and was virtually written off".

"as the years went on and I had purchased my li and sx and felt the need to go in search of the illustrious vega. a few let downs on the way I ended up with the vega you see before you. it was purchased already ’restored’ in scotland, but not to the standard in the pictures".

"once it was safely back in its new home the process of changing all those small parts that did not come up to scratch were changed, all stainless nuts, bolts and washers where applicable. the problem then arose one windy sunday afternoon at my dads, it was being stored as i was moving house in the not too distant future. it was one of those moments you reach out to stop and can do nothing about, the wind and other forces had caused the vega to fall on its nearside down the side of a metal framed greenhouse, you can imagine the words coming from my mouth. legshields, front mudguard, forks, exhaust were scratched and dented in some way or other. strip down commences".

"once stripped parts were sent away from respraying, chroming and powder coating. rebuild completed with new front wheel rim, rebore etc etc etc. from that time on it has done very few miles, made a showing at the 1st luna landing at the euro lambretta in kelso 2004. over the past few years a few nice original accessories have been added the rear carrier, underseat toolbox and foot-pegs. the engine is a standard 75cc on its third oversize piston, with original air-filter box and exhaust (thanks to dean at scootopia for fully rewelding the rear section of the exhaust) and trev at midas for the chroming".

"i must mention some names as a thanks for info, parts and general chat: daz.h, steviec, jem, carlk(usa), dean, trev, kev, howard, donald and a few others who know who they are, oh and davo (since he likes seeing his name in print).

"at present my second vega is in the process of being rebuilt although it is taking somewhat longer than expected, but is hoped to be on the road very soon.

cameron (aka barneypup)"

when fitting your rear shocker dont forget to fit the thin spacer onto the bottom mounting bolt before you fit the shocker - if you dont fit the spacer the shocker will sit at an angle and damage the seals, it may foul the bodywork too!!
