:: chairman's foreword ::

welcome to issue 7 of luna news. over the past few weeks interest in the club has been increasing at a rapid pace with us now having well over 60 members. mind you, patrick joynt from the saigon scooter centre has found that he can't register as vietnam isn't listed on our list of countries. i'm sure justin will remedy that one [oops, he has now - sarah].

in order to further bring the club to peoples attention i will be writing a piece for 'classic scooterist scene' and sarah has sent a letter to 'scootering'. let's see if we can top over 100 members for the club as there are obviously plenty of luna-tics out there, we just need to find them. if you know someone then spread the word.

april will soon be along and that means the vmsc show at ryton-on-dunsmore. it will be fantastic to see so many luna line machines in one place. i'll make sure that i wear a t-shirt or top that is recognisable so that if you see me, stop me and have a chat it will be good to catch up with our various members.

i attended the burton brewers sc custom show earlier this month and was shocked to see so many metalflake painted scooters. that's a bit of a pain for me as my vega was sprayed last year in black metalflake. ah well, back to the drawing board, especially after I saw belinda's scooter featured in this newsletter. whoever said luna life would be easy.

until next time - ride safe and hopefully I can catch up with some of you soon.

:: vmsc event update ::

well we now have a grand total of 17 lunas for the forthcoming luna landing at ryton-on-dunsmore! luna models confirmed in the group Luna Owners Club display are as follows:

vega 75s
lui 50cl
cometa 75sl
lui 50s
lui 50c

setting up time:
setting up time is between 8am and 10am. justin and i will be there to set up from 8am. the hall will be opened to the general public as soon as possible after 10am.

precautions:
all petrol tanks should be drained and batteries disconnected prior to machines being put on display. i will bring plenty of spare petrol cans in case people need them.

brian of the vmsc says:

"there is absolutely no charge for entering our show - all that we ask is that you bring your machines. as part of the welcome pack, which you get when you sign in, we provide each entrant and their 'supporter' with a wristband which gets you in and out of the show all day, a small memento in the form of a pin badge, plastic floor protectors for the stands, drip mat, etc.

for information there is an 'soul and motown' event being put on at the venue by the local scooter club, all or nothing s.c., on the saturday evening and i understand camping is available if any of your members want to go to that. see http://www.allornothingsc.co.uk.

as for management of personal information, this is something we are very very focussed on, not only for this event but as a club in the wider sense. i have worked with the data protection registrar to make sure we align with the requirements of the data protection act and i can assure you that the information provided by yourselves will only exist on our show database and will most definitely not be used or circulated to any other organisations or bodies. the only details that may be made public are the names and machine details, in the event of a person winning a class, and this will be in the form of a winners list provided to the likes of scootering etc".

this month’s featured luna: belinda allin's vega

belinda is a new member of the LOC, she's based in uxbridge, middlesex:

"i only bought the vega a couple of weeks ago from a guy called pete in aldershot - so can't take any of the credit of the work that's been done to it. its black mirrorflake, with lots of chrome and gold plating and is a 135cc. its just needs a few finishing touches ie back mudguard now in chromers etc. it was previously on a s.o.r.n. since 1994 and my husband has got it going and we had it m.o.t.'d last saturday and i've just been down to the d.v.l.a. today to get it taxed etc, so its now on the road".

"with it came the original green log book, original invoice from a1 scooters ltd in doncaster and it cost £107.95 back in 1971. i also hold the insurance docs for the original owner as well".

"i originally owned a cometa about 18 years ago but between myself and my husband chris we currently own 6 lambrettas, 4 gps, 1 sx200 and the vega".

"i hope to meet you all soon - you've all been very welcoming.

belinda"

when assembling the clutch lever arm into the crankcase side do not forget to fit the clutch arm return spring to it before you assemble the arm to the crankcase side - if you do forget then it is nigh on impossible to fit it later :-(

regards - the LOC/lunabase team: pete, jem, justin and sarah
